Dangerous Passing Incidents Reported As School Begins

School has just begun, but already reports of illegal and dangerous passing incidents are flooding in from school bus drivers across the country. One local West Virginia news outlet reported two incidents this week where drivers were caught illegally passing stopped school buses.

One incident resulted in a damaged stop arm, while the other driver nearly struck pedestrians according to WOWK.

Bryan Shepherd, bus driver for Kanawha County Schools, says he was preparing to let students off the bus at a bus stop when a vehicle flew by, hitting the extended stop arm and damaging it. Shepherd says the driver did not slow at all for the flashing amber lights or stop arm.

In the other incident, a driver passed a stopped school bus in the turn lane directly in front of an elementary school. While the stop arm was not extended, as the bus was not picking up students, but the bus driver says the motorist nearly struck several pedestrians.

Both incidents have been reported to police, but so far no one has been ticketed.
