Bus Safety Video Wins Telly Award

One of the most important aspects of owning any style of bus is always safety. Whether you are transporting 60 students or 15 members of a church congregation, it takes skill and practice to get them safely where you are going.

This is why we celebrate National School Bus Safety week each October. Last year, in honor of the special week, the Houston Independent School District’s transportation department recorded a music and dance video that covers everything from proper boarding procedures, how to sit on a bus, and even the importance of preventing bullying.

This week the video was awarded a Bronze Telly award. “School Bus Shuffle” features students from Peck Elementary School, Yates High School, and the High School for Visual and Performing Arts in the video, as well as district drivers and attendants. So far it has received over 37,000 views on YouTube.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and honors outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the best video and film productions, and online commercials, videos, and films.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards. “The Houston Independent School District transportation department’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft, and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

“This educational safety video was fun to make and well received by our community during National School Bus Safety Week in October,” added Chester Glaude, the district’s transportation operations manager. “Being recognized for this bus safety message is the reason for everyone at Houston Independent School District to be proud.”
