A Mom Catches a Scary Stop-Arm Violation on Camera

The more data that is collected on stop-arm violations across the country, the more clear the widespread nature of the problem is. Several studies have shown that drivers failing to stop when the bus stop-arm is extended are reaching epidemic proportions, but improved technology and increased enforcement of the laws are helping to cut down on violations.

However, while many schools are using advanced exterior cameras to document and enforce stop-arm violations with local police, Tracey Honig from Karnes County, Texas managed to document a recent situation using her iPad. Not only did Tracey catch an 18-wheeler illegally passing her daughter’s school bus as her daughter was moving to board the bus, Honig also caught law enforcement immediately stopping the offending driver.

Karnes County Sheriff Dwarne Villanueva said deputies have begun the practice of following buses during routes in order to catch passing violators.
