Guardian Angel School Bus Lighting System Approved in Colorado

Guardian Angel, a safety lighting system for school buses designed by a former bus mechanic, has been approved for use on buses in Colorado.

The system was designed by Steve Gardner, who uses a white flood light mounted on the bus’ front bumper to light the path ahead for students to safely cross the street by making them more visible to motorists.

This approval makes Colorado the seventh state in the nation to allow Guardian Angel systems. North Carolina, Vermont, Michigan, Wyoming, Mississippi, and Nevada all permit the lighting system.

According to School Bus Fleet, Colorado specifically allows Guardian Angel’s white light illuminating the left side of the front of the school bus, or dual white lights on both sides of the school bus. The specifications do not permit red strobes on the system, however.
